Ministry to unveil draft frequency conversion plan for 5G by 2020

MOSCOW, Oct 8 (PRIME) -- Russia’s federal state unitary enterprise Radio Research and Development Institute (NIIR) will present a preliminary project of clearing frequencies for the 5G networks from military use in late 2019, Andrei Kantsurov, head of the state policy department at the Digital Development Ministry, said on Tuesday.

“We plan to receive preliminary results of on the possibility of unrolling 5G networks in a rather wide range of bands until the end of 2019,” he said.

The country needs comprehensive conversion of frequencies because the spectrum has a great deal of users, Kantsurov said.

The ministry believes that the range below 6 GHz is optimal to ensure 5G coverage, while the 3.4–3.8 GHz resource is the key in Europe, China, South Korea, and Japan, and it will see the most active progress of the 5G ecosystem.
